In the past, I generally felt that being patient meant no more than waiting around while doing nothing before you would take your next step. I am still learning that to be patient involves so much more than just waiting. Patience engages the wisdom to perpetually calibrate, prepare, and then discern the prescriptive timing of those next steps for optimal progress and results; all while your waiting.
The greatest coaches call the right play at just the right time and not before it should be called. The top level investors decide to buy at just the right time and not too late or too early. The wisest teachers deliver the precise lessons at just the right time with the right students and not when they are still unprepared to learn.
As Sheen states in the quote below, “patience is power.” It is not just waiting.
“Patience is power. Patience is not an absence of action; rather it is “timing.” It waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.” — Fulton J. Sheen —
