Adjustment

Each of us has had others in our lives that have helped us to grow.  They say or do something at a precise and memorable moment where their words immediately “adjust” your mindset.  Most often for me, this was from my parents.  I hope that you’ve each had some of these people in your life.

One collection of this type of “adjustment” quote comes from Justin Halpern in his book, Sh*t My Father Says.  This is one of the very few books that I’ve read where I find myself actually laughing out loud.  The nature of the “adjustment” advice is eerily similar to what I experienced a time or two, so it certainly resonated with me.

Here are a few quotes from the book.  I hope you can crack a smile today or even laugh out loud as you read them.  We all need this level of adjustment-level feedback from time to time, even when we might not quite be ready for it.

“You thought it was hard? If kindergarten is busting your ass, I got some bad news for you about the rest of life.”    — Justin Halpern  —

On Receiving Straight A’s on My Report Card: “Hot damn! You’re a smart kid—I don’t care what people say about you!…I’m kidding, nobody says you’re not smart. They say other stuff, but not that.”    —  Justin Halpern  —

“Why would you throw a ball in someone’s face?…Huh. That’s a pretty good reason. Well, I can’t do much about your teacher being pissed, but me and you are good.”   —  Justin Halpern  —
