Show Your Work

There was obviously something very significant about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. What inspired me was her purpose in the work to help to evolve a culture. What was it that she offered that brought others to appreciate her craft, even if they didn’t agree with the decision?

In most occasions, Ginsburg drew at least a consideration of understanding and possibly even a heightened comprehension with others to explore the collective logic she drew from to make her decisions. With great essence, Ginsburg “showed her work” with the opinions she offered. She patiently and purposefully spoke and wrote to inform others.

The opposite of this would be to express the interpretive rule of law as an authoritarian and leave it at that. No regard for the shaping of a culture surrounding a decision and no effort to regard the variant mindsets of others. There would be no teachable moment that might invest others in her opinion making process or to examine their own.

Be conscious of the decisions that you make and the efforts you put forth to inform others of your thinking. Leaders bring with them a following. Notorious RBG informed others to generate such a following.

Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you. — Ruth Bader Ginsburg —
