Hoping/Telling/Leading

How will we transform from where we are performing today to finishing precisely where we all want to be in our performance by the end of the year?

One option is to continue to do what you are doing and hoping for better results. Good luck.

Another option is to tell people to do better so you can meet your goals.

A better option is to lead with others to engage in the resolution of real issues. To set a course where each will invest with you and the group to learn the way to improved performance for all.

Demonstrate the courage to listen, relate, discover and learn with others toward improved results. Leading is much more messy, complex and taxing than hoping or telling, but provides the only real shot at attaining and sustaining the progress the group desires to make.

Leaders must wake people out of inertia. They must get people excited about something they’ve never seen before, something that does not yet exist.” — Rosabeth Moss Kanter —
