Hammer?

Temperance is the principled exercise of self-control. Neither too much nor too little, but just the right amount.

Some rush in at full tilt when little effort or engagement were required.

Some fall back, not to engage or act at all when much is required.

To temper efforts, think rationally beforehand to settle on what level of actions are required to be applied for a satisfactory result.

“Temperance is the wisdom to know that not every constructive job requires a hammer.” — Wes Fesler —
