It’s a natural instinct for us to compare ourselves with others. The problem is, comparing ourselves with another is often unreasonable.
We each come from very different places with widely variant experiences to get to where we are today. No two circumstances have been the same. Each is innately better at some things than others. We ideally have had varying purposes in our lives that have guided our course for learning, performing and improving for what matters most for us.
Why then would we pause to compare ourselves with another who is on an entirely different path?
Comparison with another is a fault line of the ego. We feel better if we can somehow justify to ourselves that we are better. We feel jealous if we can’t.
Compare yourself only to your goals as you pursue your purpose in life. Progress to be better yourself each day. Continue to learn from others that are good at what they are focused on, but without comparison.
“When you are content to be simply yourself and don’ compare or compete, everyone will respect you.” — Lau Tzu —
