There are numerous times in our lives where we have come to benefit greatly from the advice of a trusted mentor. From know that from their guidance and support, we made a much wiser decision that promoted our success. We can look back and know that through the mentors words and actions that a positive difference were made.
To have a mentor is an asset in our endeavor to learn. The mentor will knowingly guide your thinking, but not take it over. They will have demonstrated themselves the precise logic they speak of with you. They guard your character in your decision making, knowing the value of character for you down the road. They add thoughts and perspectives to teach you how to think for yourself and not what to think by giving you the answer.
Great mentors are chosen by self-initiating learners. We should be looking for mentors as they are rarely assigned. When you come into a position to mentor with another, pay it forward with them for what you are continuing to learn.
“The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own likeness, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.” — Steven Spielberg —
