There is a simple way to invigorate the mind so that we may be surprised with what we discover. Take a fresh look today at something you’ve seen or done a thousand times before. Approach that standard thing as if you’ve never seen or experienced it before. Move toward it from a new angle, walk backwards, use the opposite hand, skip between every fifth step to mix it up a bit or anything else that would cause you to differentiate out from your normal rut.
Begin again for the purpose of opening the mind to possibilities outside of the comfortable assumption of knowing everything standard. From these experiences you will learn again and again. Generate for yourself more “firsts” each day, there will come a time for each of us where we will no longer have the precious opportunity. Make it a point to have at least one first experience each and every day. It only requires you to begin again on approach.
“Practice wonder today – be present, begin anew, know nothing, and allow everything to surprise you, inspire you, excite you, entertain you, teach you. Be fully open to life, today, and let yourself live wonder – fully.” — Robert Holden —
