Some of us are satisfied with all that we have while others are unsatisfied with all that they haven’t. Either sensation promotes a dramatically different feeling than the other and these feelings will affect our next actions.
A key for establishing expectations is to be content with the simplest of things in the moment. Things could have gone much worse or much better, but realize that it is, what it is, at that time. You are where you are at in life. To focus forward with pity and disdain offers no advantage or value in the actions to be taken in the next moment nor the ones after that. Even a sh*t sandwich is a sandwich, drive on.
You will still aim for greater things and better outcomes, but you will only do so fully with an appreciation for what is there for you now. Being satisfied promotes success and a sense of happiness that will produce future moments of greater fulfillment. An optimistic satisfaction with what you have is the prime starting point for aiming ahead.
“Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize nothing is lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” — Lao Tzu —
