Curse of Knowledge

We can’t possibly know everything, but at times we pause to think that we do. It’s very difficult to remain curious if we come to feel that we know it all. We tend to quickly forget the many challenges of gathering that knowledge after we feel we have enough knowledge in hand.

On many occasions, the most knowledgeable will come to be surpassed by those that remain curious. Blockbuster Video had a great deal of knowledge in their industry until a more curious Netflix far surpassed them. Blockbusters vast level of knowledge became obsolete when they lost their curiosity to continue learning with their consumers.

When you come to the point where you believe that you have all the knowledge that you’ll ever need, know that the curious learner will soon surpass you. Focus to never forget the complicated work and lessons learned as you gathered the knowledge level you hold. When you lose the curiosity to learn for the purpose of enhancing your knowledge level, you will gain no more. Observe to continue learning as if it were the very first time.

“The Curse of Knowledge: when we are given knowledge, it is impossible to imagine what it’s like to lack that knowledge.” — Chip Heath —
